Rather than providing a literal narrative, organic abstraction eschews representation in favour of expressing something more intuitive and visceral. Organic modernism is concerned with interlocking functions such as symmetry, line and curve, forming a sense of elegance. Valentine Schlegel's architectural design and sculptures are characterised by the modernist engagement in forms and materials. The artist’s stylistic inclinations, which focused on artisanal, rough-hewn dimensions, accompany our practice as we return to architecture, sculpture and design in search of visual provocation.
